# Folders & permissions

> Organize work into folders and control access per folder and per study

## Folders

Folders organize studies and AI test projects, and can be **nested** for hierarchy (e.g. *Client A → Q3 Discovery*). Your dashboard shows folders, studies, and AI test projects together, with search, filtering, and sorting.

Archiving a folder archives the studies and AI test projects inside it.

## Folder access policies

Every folder has an access policy that sets the default for organization members:

| Policy | Effect |
| ------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Full access** (default) | Members can view and edit everything inside. |
| **Can edit** | Members can edit content but not manage sharing. |
| **Can view** | Read-only for members. |
| **Invite only** | Hidden from everyone except people explicitly invited to the folder. |

Studies have the same set of access policies of their own.

## Folder & study roles

On top of the default policy, you can grant individual people a role on a folder or study:

| Role | Permissions |
| --------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Owner** | Full control, including managing other people's roles. |
| **Full access** | Everything except managing folder sharing. |
| **Editor** | Edit the study, questions, and insights; view interviews; can't recruit panels or resolve comments. |
| **Commenter** | Study-level only: view results and insights, and participate in [comments](/platform/collaboration#comments). |
| **Viewer** | Read-only. |

Roles granted on a folder flow down to the studies inside it. Folder-level roles are Owner, Full access, Editor, and Viewer; the Commenter role is granted on individual studies.

## Common setups

* **Open team** — leave folders on Full access; use roles only for external collaborators.
* **Agency** — one Invite-only folder per client; grant the account team Owner/Editor, and clients Commenter or Viewer on deliverables.
* **Sensitive research** — an Invite-only folder restricted to the core team, with results shared more broadly via [public sharing links](/platform/collaboration#public-sharing-links) when ready.
